iPod touch | How to Jailbreak Your iPod Touch Using Spirit (Windows) [3.1.2, 3.1.3]

These are instructions on how to perform an untethered jailbreak on your iPod touch using the Spirit Jailbreak and Windows.

To follow these instructions you must be using an activated device not stuck on the Connect to iTunes or Emergency Call screen.

Any version of iTunes 9 til 9.1.1 will work.

Step One
Download the Spirit Jailbreak from here and save it to your desktop.

Step Two
Double click the Spirit application on your desktop to launch it

*Important: If you have Windows 7 you may need to run Spirit in compatibility mode for Windows 98. Before launching right click Spirit.exe and select Properties from the contextual menu. Then from the Compatibility tab select Windows 98 from the Compatibility Mode dropdown. Click Apply then Ok

Step Three
Connect your iPhone and press the Jailbreak button.

Step Four
The Spirit app will then let you know the jailbreak is complete.

Your iPhone will reboot and show you progress indicator. Once this finishes your iPhone will be jailbroken with Cydia installed!

What is Jailbreaking?

Jailbreaking is the process by which an iPhone firmware is modified to allow unsigned code to be run to

gain access to files that Apple wouldn’t normally let you access. Jailbreaking adds unofficial application

installers to your iPhone such as Cydia or Icy (I personally only use Cydia), which let you download

many 3rd-party applications previously unavailable through the App Store.

Why Jailbreak Your iPhone?

Jailbreaking lets you install applications that are not approved by Apple. Many of these applications

can be very helpful but they will unfortunately never make it to the App Store due to Apple’s

restrictions. There are many reasons why you would want to jailbreak your iPhone:

* install 3rd party applications rejected by Apple for various reasons (ie. nudity)

* video recording (now available on the iPhone 3GS)

* changing the look and feel by installing custom graphics and themes

* free tethering

* get access to cracked App Store apps for free (not endorsed by me, but still worth noting)

* be able to unlock your iPhone

What Is Unlocking?

Unlocking is the removal of SIM restrictions on the modem, allowing the use of the iPhone on any

carrier. There are 2 types of iPhone unlocks:

* software unlock: the iPhone is unlocked by a software

* hardware unlock: modification have to be made to the actual hardware to unlock the phone

Software unlocks are safer because they do not modify your device and can easily be reverted back.

Soft unlocks are mostly developed for free by the Dev Team, an international group of iPhone

hackers. Hardware unlocks are a little tricky and usually cost money. In clear, if you want to unlock

your iPhone, you can do it for free by with a safe software unlock.

requirements:

-Unit must be Jailbroken Cydia installed
-Wi-Fi connection

Press to launch Cydia Installer from your SpringBoard.

Press to select the Manage tab at the bottom of the screen.

Press to select the large Sources button

If the ultrasn0w repo is not present press the Edit button at the top right of the screen. Otherwise, skip to next step.

How to add ultra snow repo:
-Press the Add button at the top left of the screen.
-Enter http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com/ as the source url and press the Add Source button.
-Once the source has been added press the large Return to Cydia button.
-Press the Done button at the top right of the screen.

Press to select repo666.ultrasn0w.com from the list of user entered sources.
