Dismantling Nokia 3220 & Variants

Back to: Nokia Dismantle Instructions

When dismantling any phone, great care should be taken to ensure that no damage is caused to any of the parts. Rough handling may result in severe damage of many parts, and if proper anti-static procedures are not followed, electrostatic damage may result in any electronic component.

Before commencing, it is recommended that the correct tools are purchased for the job in hand - at the very least, you will require a Torx T6 screwdriver..

Step 1. Remove the back cover.

Step 2. Remove the front cover.

Step 3. Lift away the key mat.

Step 4. Remove the six Torx T6 screws.

Step 5. Remove the modules from the chassis.

Step 6. Disconnect the display connector by prising the modules apart as shown below.

Step 7. Using a thin shim of plastic or similar separate the LCD screen from the user interface module.

Step 8. Once the screen has been removed, protect it with a plastic film or similar.

Step 9. Again use your shim to remove the light guide and shielding.

Step 10. Camera removal. I've included these steps for the sake of completeness, but if you don't have access to the correct tools for the job I'd recommend leaving well alone.

Step 11. The side Gel Grips are attached to the chassis with hooks. Slide them in the direction shown in (1) and remove in the direction shown by (2).

Step 12. Now you should have all four Gel Grips removed.

Step 13. Remove the charging port using tweezers or an unplugged charger.

Step 14. Tweezers should be used to remove the microphone.

Step 15. The vibra motor is held in place by friction and is simply lifted out of the chassis.

Step 16. Using a flat bladed screwdriver push down the clip on the internal handsfree assembly to release the lid and power button.

Step 17. The parts should simply drop out of the chassis.

Step 18. The internal handsfree speaker can be simply lifted away, but take note of the position of the guiding pin for when you come to reassemble the phone.

Step 19. Push out the blind plug with a screwdriver.

Step 19. Reassembly is a simple matter of reversing the above steps making sure that everything works correctly and that you've caused no damage whilst dismantling the phone.
