Dismantling Nokia 5100 & Variants

Back to: Nokia Dismantle Instructions

When dismantling any phone, great care should be taken to ensure that no damage is caused to any of the parts. Rough handling may result in severe damage of many parts, and if proper anti-static procedures are not followed, electrostatic damage may result in any electronic component.

Before commencing, it is recommended that the correct tools are purchased for the job in hand - at the very least, you will require a Torx T6 screwdriver..

Step 1. Remove the bottom section of the fascia.

Step 2. Remove top part of fascia.

Step 3. Remove the six Torx T6 screws in the order shown below.

Step 4. Remove the c-engine from the chassis.

Step 5. The screen and keypad assembly can now be separated from the main circuit board.

Step 6. As usual, the vibra motor is held in place by friction and is simply lifted from the chassis.

Step 7. Remove the earpiece taking note of where the locating pin is located for re-assembly.

Step 8. Remove keypad from the bottom part of the fascia.

Step 9. Things start to get a little tricky here as the main connector block is held in place by double sided tape which usually cannot be reused.

Step 10. Use a thin plastic shim between the c-cover and the system connector to release the battery cover.

Step 11. Use your plastic shim again between the c-cover and the main connector block to release the main connector.

Step 12. You should now be able to remove the main connector block whilst peeling away most of the double sided tape..

Step 13. Clean any removing tape from the main chassis.

Step 14. This is actually part of the reassembly instructions, and assumes that you are using a new main connector block. Remove the protective foil from the main connector block.

Step 15. Place the main connector block into place making sure that it is precisely aligned.

Step 16. Press the main connector block firmly into place.

Step 17. The rest of the reassembly is a simple reversal of the above steps taking extra time to ensure that everything works as it should, and that you have caused no damage whilst inside the handset.

When dismantling any phone, great care should be taken to ensure that no damage is caused to any of the parts. Rough handling may result in severe damage of many parts, and if proper anti-static procedures are not followed, electrostatic damage may result in any electronic component.

Before commencing, it is recommended that the correct tools are purchased for the job in hand. At the very least, you will require a Torx T6 screwdriver. Do NOT attempt to use a small Allen key or filed down screwdriver, you will only damage the screws.

Step 1. Remove the back battery cover, battery, SIM card, any installed memory card and finally, the front clip-on cover.

Step 2. On the front of the handset, you will see six Torx T6 screws (highlighted in red). Remove these and keep them in a safe place.

Step 3. You can now lift the screen and keypad assembly out of the phone chassis. Take care when handling this not to get fingerprints on the screen, and take care not to damage the unprotected screen with scratches etc. Attached to the back of the screen assembly is the main circuit board of the phone. This can be separated from the screen by carefully pulling them apart. It is only secured to the screen assembly towards the top of the phone.

Step 4. You will now be left with the main chassis of the phone. There are still a few parts here that can be removed by simply pulling them out of the chassis. This is the aerial assembly and will usually just fall out. The power button is simply a strip of pliable plastic that resides on a plastic stub and can be just pulled off. The battery pin assembly can be pulled straight out, but care must be taken not to bend the pins as it passes through the plastic chassis. The vibra motor is just pushed into place and can be easily pulled away from the chassis. The microphone again is held in place by friction and can be easily pulled away from the chassis. Connector assembly (for want of a better description). This is held in place using a rubberised shim above the assembly which should be removed first allowing the power/headphone connector assembly to be simply removed.

Step 5. Below is an exploded picture of the 3650 with all the relevant parts removed. The colour key is as above. Please note that the infra-red cover has not been removed. This appears to be simply clipped in place but was extremely tight, so take care if you need to remove yours.

Step 6. To re-assemble the phone, simply reverse the above steps. After re-assembly take as much time as you need to thoroughly test the handset to ensure that you have caused no damage, or forgotten one of the re-assembly steps.
