When dismantling any phone, great care should be taken to ensure that no damage is caused to any of the parts. Rough handling may result in severe damage of many parts, and if proper anti-static procedures are not followed, electrostatic damage may result in any electronic component.
Before commencing, it is recommended that the correct tools are purchased for the job in hand - at the very least, you will require a Torx T6 screwdriver.
It should be noted than dismantling this handset will affect its ability to repel moisture in future.
Step 1. Remove the bottom part of the fascia.
Step 2. Remove the key pad.
Step 3. Remove the top part of the fascia.
Step 4. Remove the six Torx T6 screws and store them safely.
Step 5. Remove the user interface module and main circuit board from the chassis
Step 6. Separate the user interface module from the main circuit board taking care not to damage the screen connector at the top of the phone.
Step 7. Push the LCD screen out using a clean cloth.
Step 8. Protect the screen with a film or similar.
Step 9. Remove the speaker and its surrounding rubber boot.
Step 10. Remove the four Torx T6 screws in the order shown below.
Step 11. Camera Removal. This stage is covered for the sake of completeness, but if you don't have access to the correct tools I strongly suggest that you leave well alone
Step 12. System connector exchange. Note that these pictures feature a Nokia 5100 but the procedure is exactly the same for the 5140. The system connector is held in place by a double sided gasket that will need to be replaced if you need to undertake this procedure.
Step 13. Using a thin plastic shim separate and remove the battery cover.
Step 14. Again using your shim remove the system connector.
Step 15. Remove the system connector.
Step 16. Using a plastic shim (not metal) remove any traces of the old gasket.
Step 17. New system connectors come with the gasket pre-fitted.
Step 18. Place the system connector exactly in position.
Step 19. Press down firmly on the connector to ensure the gasket seals securely.
Step 20. Reassembly is a simple reversal of the above steps taking extra time to ensure that everything works as it should, and that you have caused no damage whilst inside the handset.
