Dismantling Nokia 6280 & Variants

When dismantling any phone, great care should be taken to ensure that no damage is caused to any of the parts. Rough handling may result in severe damage of many parts, and if proper anti-static procedures are not followed, electrostatic damage may result in any electronic component.

Before commencing, it is recommended that the correct tools are purchased for the job in hand - at the very least, you will require a Torx T6 screwdriver.

Upper Block.

Step 1. Protect the screen with a film or similar.

Step 2. Also protect the camera lens.

Step 3. Release the battery cover.

Step 4. Remove the battery cover and the battery.

Step 5. Using a thin plastic shim, release the two clips at the top of the phone.

Step 6. Now slide your shim along the sides of the A cover to release all the remaining clips.

Step 7. Now lift up the A cover.

Step 8. Use your shim to release the keypad.

Step 9. Protect the screen.

Step 10. Carefully lift the PWB unit - bear in mind that this is glued in place.

Step 11. Remove the PWB unit and screen.

Step 12. Release the flex at one side,

Step 13. and then at the opposite side.

Step 14. Now lift away the PWB assembly.

Step 15. Release the LCD connector.

Step 16. Separate the screen from the metal shield.

Step 17. Release the camera guide assembly.

Step 18. To remove the camera you should use a specific tool which is not publicly available. This step is included here purely for the sake of completeness.

Step 19. If you have removed the camera unit, please take note of the correct positioning of the unit for reassembly.

Step 20. Half close the phone and release the main flex assembly connector.

Step 21. Carefully slot the flex connector through the C cover.

Step 22. The power switch is glued in place and can be levered out using your shim.


Lower block

Step 1. Release the battery cover.

Step 2. Remove the battery cover and battery.

Step 3. Remove the four Torx T6 screws in the order shown below and keep them safe.

Step 4. The screws are supposed to be replaced on reassembly, but in practice you can reuse them.

Step 5. Using a thin shim release the clips on the D cover.

Step 6. Remove the D cover now that all the clips have been released.

Step 7. A specific tool is supposed to be used to remove the camera assembly which is not available to the general public. This step and the following one are included purely for the sake of completeness.

Step 8. Take note of the correct orientation of the camera for reassembly.

Step 9. Lift up the main PCB.

Step 10. Use your shim to carefully release the flex connector

Step 11. Lever up the keypad using your shim - bear in mind that it is glued in place.

Step 12. If you have been careful removing the keypad you may be able to reuse the glue gasket otherwise it will need to be replaced.

Step 13. Remove the charging jack using an unplugged charger.

Step 14. Use your shim to release the internal hands free cover.

Step 15. Remove the internal hands free cover.

Step 16. Peel the cover away ONLY if you intend to replace it completely.

Step 17. Lever out the internal hands free speaker.

Step 18. The internal handsfree gasket may need to be replaced if the speaker is removed.

Step 19. Remove the microphone using a pick or similar.
