Dismantling Nokia 6800 & Variants

Back to: Nokia Dismantle Instructions

When dismantling any phone, great care should be taken to ensure that no damage is caused to any of the parts. Rough handling may result in severe damage of many parts, and if proper anti-static procedures are not followed, electrostatic damage may result in any electronic component.

Before commencing, it is recommended that the correct tools are purchased for the job in hand - at the very least, you will require a Torx T6 screwdriver.

Step 1. Protect the screen with a film or similar.

Step 2. Remove the battery cover.

Step 3. Remove the two Torx T6 screws.

Step 4. Insert a thin plastic shim (not too far in) between the a & b covers and move it in the direction shown.

Step 5. Repeat the same procedure on the opposite side of the phone.

Step 6. With the retaining clips unlatched, separate the two parts.

Step 7. Protect the screen with a film or similar.

Step 8. The key mat should simply fall out of the a cover.

Step 9. Open the flip.

Step 10. Remove the flip from the a cover as shown below, but take not of the position of the hinges for reassembly.

Step 11. The function keys are attached with four clips as shown below which can be released using a plastic shim. Take care not to damage the sprung contacts.

Step 12. With the clips unlatched, you can lift the function keys away.

Step 13. Remove the five Torx T6 screws in the order shown.

Step 14. With the screws removed, the main circuit board can be lifted out of the chassis.

Step 15. Using a plastic shim, release the clips holding the light guide in place.

Step 16. With the clips released, remove the light guide.

Step 17. The LCD metal frame is held in place by clips on either side which should all be released.

Step 18. Take note of the position of the LCD in the metal frame.

Step 19. Now separate the screen and metal frame, and protect the screen.

Step 20. Do NOT remove the earpiece from the metal frame. This is supplied as a complete assembly.

Step 21. The volume key simply lifts out of the chassis.

Step 22. Although tweezers are shown here removing the power jack, the easiest way to remove it is to use the connecting plug on a Nokia charger (making sure it's not plugged in).

Step 23. You usually need tweezers to lever the microphone up and out of the chassis.

Step 24. Follow the usual procedure to remove the friction held vibra motor.

Step 25. Insert a plastic shim between the aerial contacts (taking care not to damage them), and lever upwards to release the aerial.

Step 26. Now you can simply lift the aerial out of the chassis.

Step 27. To remove the plastic logo clip, unclip the two lugs as shown below taking care not to break them.

Step 28. Now you can remove the logo clip.

Step 29. Reassembly is a simple reversal of the above steps taking extra time to ensure that everything works as it should, and that you have caused no damage whilst inside the handset.
